Dadra & Nagar Haveli
is one of the seven territories under the direct
administration and control of the Union of India.
Bordering the highly industrialized states of Gujarat
and Maharashtra, this province was liberated from the
Portuguese on 2nd August 1954 and integrated with the
union of India on 11th August 1961. Dadra & Nagar Haveli,
spreading across 491 sq. Kms., had a total population of
41,352 at the time of liberation which has now
multiplied to nearly 2.50 lakhs. This U.T. which was
predominantly of tribal population has now emerged to be
a cosmopolitan province, thanks to the rapid
industrialization that took place during the last two
decades as a result of which over 2000 industries are
presently operating here.
Dadra & Nagar Haveli Industries Association, popularly
known as DNHIA, is the representative body of industries
of this U.T. DNHIA, since its inception, has been
playing a catalytical role between the Administration
and the industries with the larger interest of ushering
in a healthy environment conductive to industrial
development. It has been vociferous in evolving policies
and programmes to aid attainment of its set objectives.
DNHIA has also been playing an equally important
role in pursuing various community development
programmes and had undertaken numerous such initiative
such as periodically organizing Blood Donation and free
Medical Camps, regular supply of nutritious food to
inhabitants of various educational institutions housing
poor tribal children, actively participating in the
traditional tribal celebrations etc.
